We use colors to identify parts of speech and different types of sentences. The parts of speech owl has different colored feathers for each part of speech (blue coordinating conjunctions, pink infinitives, yellow gerunds, purple past participles and green present participles).

I also have the active vs. passive sentences board. Students refer to this board when writing and underline their sentences in green or purple depending on which type of sentence we are focusing on.
