When I arrived at my new classroom 4 years ago I was a little disappointed. The room they assigned me for my 25-30 Kindergarteners was previously the faculty room. It was small, and only had two windows. But with budget cuts, and our districts numbers on the rise, that was the reality. I made it my goal to make my room bright, welcoming and a place to grow. I thought I was doing a great job, when I stumbled upon the Kindercraze blog this summer, and I was instantly inspired! I paralleled my theme to my feelings about teaching Kindergarten: Kindergarten is What’s at the End of the Rainbow. My project was to bring the rainbow into my classroom. It started with Astrobright paper, and lots of it! I used it to make all my accents with my kiddos names on them, that included my lab groups, job chart, and desk plates. I used it for my focus wall, and my bulletin boards as well. I used it for my word wall, my voice level chart, my job bulletin board, and my calendar. I even use it for my math vocabulary words and to label my lab bins. I found a hidden gem at the fabric store too: Glitter black felt!! And when the light comes in the room and hits the walls, my room sparkles and so do my lovies and I! Thanks to Astrobright and Kindercraze for being our silver lining in our cloud!
