Here are two spelling center ideas to help students memorize how to spell their spelling words. Memory Match It: Students play memory match it with their weekly spelling words printed on colorful cardstock paper. I use a pocket chart because it makes it easier for little hands to grab the cards and for them to stay in order. When a match is made, all the students in the center write down the match on a recording sheet. The student who made the match gets to write the match in a gel pen. This makes it easy to find the “winner” and ensures that all students practice writing their spelling words.
ABC Order Center: The teacher prints out the weekly spelling words on colorful cardstock paper. Then sets up the pocket chart with two columns (see picture). The students take turns moving the spelling words from one column to the other as they alphabetize them. All students in the center record the words.
